SNOHOMISH COUNTY SUPERIOR COURT — J425 has learned that Mark Hein, the Lake Stevens High School teacher arrested and jailed on minor-involved sex crime charges in 2023, is no longer employed by the Lake Stevens School District.
But according to superior court filings in a civil suit brought by a former student, Hein wasn’t fired.
In fact, the former coach was allowed to resign effective December 31, 2024, after spending over two years on fully-paid administrative leave – a leave that started when the Lake Stevens Police Department – at the request of a state agency – launched a criminal investigation into Hein’s behavior.
The six month investigation that followed resulted in multiple charges of minor-involved sex crimes, Hein’s very public arrest and jailing – and clear, documentary evidence revealing that Hein had – at the very least – committed multiple acts of unprofessional conduct .
The charges were dropped a few days after Hein’s arrest, but the police and prosecutor both stated Hein remained under criminal investigation. No further charges ensued.
