I was asked about in a comment thread earlier today, so here's the news from Yakima:
In open competition (newspapers of all circulation amounts grouped together), Rob Carlson's shot of Dustin Adams placed second in the category of "color, action, sports photography".
In other award news, my "Off the Record" weekly column placed second in open competition…
