With one week under our belt, we're off to our usual hot start - going 7-2 in week one Wesco predictions.
We correctly called a close Viking victory over Mariner. We said Glacier Peak would win a tight, high scoring affair over Arlington, we liked Jackson big over Stanwood. We didn't see an Oak Harbor loss to Cascade, but you can't win 'em all. To sum up, we're gonna be lead pipe solid all year, just like last year.
Okay, self promoting aside, let's get down to brass tacks.
Week Two Wesco Picks
Shorewood at Jackson - Jackson could start the JV and roll in this one. Gay and Carr run wild, Jax 48-7.
Mariner at Mountlake Terrace - We're assuming that the Mariner coaching staff looked at last week's game tape and figured out that they need to get the ball to sophomore back KaiVarae Russell at least 20 times a game. It wouldn't hurt to use Tui a little more either. Russell breaks the 200 yard mark and the Marauders get a much-needed distraction from their booster club scandal. Mariner 17-14.
Lynnwood at Arlington - The Eagles are kicking themselves after letting a victory slip through their grasp at Glacier Peak. QB Andy Smith threw for SIX touchdowns in the loss. Maybe Jake Parduhn gets off track here. Either way, the Eagles fly, 35-3.
Cascade at Kamiak - The Bruins looked legit while shutting out Oak Harbor. Kamiak hasn't given us reason to believe yet. Cascade 14-3.
Monroe at Oak Harbor - The Bearcats put 51 on the board in their week one victory, but it's awfully hard to win at Oak Harbor in front of 5,000 crazy islanders. look for Donovan Hunt to put on a show. Oak Harbor 28-14.
Ferndale at Shorecrest - Who does the Scots' scheduling? Tyrone Willingham? At least Ferndale is out of Lockers. Ferndale smashes on the road, 61-3.
Marysville-Pilchuck at Snohomish - This is probably the Wesco game of the week. At least that's what Mike Cane says. The radio will be there, the TV will be there. Austin Denton will be there. I'd like to think that Marysville-Pilchuck is vulnerable, but I just don't see it happening this week. Tommies take it, 21-17.
Edmonds-Woodway at Everett - The Warriors lost big to Meadowdale last week, but perhaps they right the ship here against another 3A opponent. Everett is coming off a nice road win at Bishop Blanchet, but I don't see E-W opening the season 0-2. E-W 24-12.
Stanwood at Meadowdale - Stanwood was sure the talk of the town before running into Jackson. Did anyone take a look at the schedule before voting for Stanwood in the preseason Seattle Times top ten? Meadowdale looks like a state contender in 3A behind the superb RB Naji-Moore Taylor and their All State candidate TE Connor Hamlett. Meadowdale wins easy 35-16, Stanwood slides to 0-2.
As always, we'll be back with our Viking pick and preview tomorrow.
