SNOHOMISH COUNTY COURTHOUSE —An Instagram post implying an imminent school shooting at Arlington School District’s Weston High School has resulted in law enforcement obtaining warrants that will require Meta — Instagram’s parent company — to hand over records that could identify the person or persons behind this threat.
On January 11, Principal Weston High School Principal Dixon-Hundredmark was notified of a possible threat via external email:
Hi Dixon,
I found a very troubling post while on Instagram that is insinuating that someone is going to bring a gun to school on the 16th. I have provided a link to the post as well as a screenshot just in case the post gets deleted by the time you see it. This is a very frightening matter and I'm sure you can understand why. I'm not sure who posted this or who is making the threat, but this is concerning enough that I needed to reach out so it can be handled as best as you can.
Principal Dixon-Hundredmark told APD that the post had created fear in her students and staff.
She also said that there would be low attendance at school on January 16 due to the perceived threat that someone is going to bring a firearm to shoot up the school.
Dixon-Hundredmark further told law enforcement that she has witnessed multiple occasions where students have used emoji guns to imitate firearms in their communications.
APD has obtained a warrant for Meta’s records in order to determine who posted the ‘threatening and frightening post to the "Weston Cringe" Instagram account’.
Weston High School is Arlington School District’s alternative high school. Enrollment is 99 per OSPI.
This is not the only account or violence in the ranks of Arlington’s high school population.
