Viking Football: Lake’s Stars Look Ready to Roll - Video Highlights
Kolton Matson calmly shredded the D of two top ten teams, Keagan Howard broke several TDs and Seth Price had a TD catch and an INT.
Watch: Offensive highlights from Friday.
If Friday’s action was a preview of what’s to come next Friday at third-ranked Sumner, reigning Gatorade Player of the Year QB Kolton Matson will lead the Viks to another 40+ point road performance, Keagan Howard will outperform a TE that the “experts” rate higher than him (while also dominating at linebacker on defense) and emerging star Seth Price will line up across from Sumner’s four star WR recruit on defense while looking to show the packed house that Sumner’s Braylon Pope is not the only recruitable 2027 WR on the field.
Lake Stevens varsity played about a dozen plays of offense and defense against reigning 2A champ Anacortes and 3A top ten finisher Monroe.
There was a little rust evident as the Viks battled two snapping/ball handling errors… and one Matson pass smacked directly off the hands of a Lake receiver, who set the ball perfectly if this was volleyball, setting up an easy if undeserved interception.
Other than that? Lake’s offense looked dangerous, even with the state’s best running back watching from the sideline (Jayshon Limar will be ready to go Friday).
Matson obliterated several ill-advised attempts at pressure, quickly finding the release valve, be it a sideline release or a deep ball over the top as Matson correctly bet on Howard to beat man coverage.
Matson hit Howard for two long TDs and found Seth Price over the middle for another. Transfer WR Cannon Kennard carried the ball a couple times and looked dangerous and fast on the perimeter. Lake’s o-line looks ready.
On defense, DC Eric Dinwiddie is still weighing whom will win the ten starting jobs opened by graduating seniors. Keagan Howard anchors the middle, that much is for sure.
It certainly looks like emerging star Seth Price will be the Viks’ top cover corner on D and deep threat on offense. Kekoa Okiyama, a junior with a bunch of experience, will likely start at either safety or corner.
Offensive line starters Luke Baird and Ashton Kasch look set for roles as interior defensive lineman, with Keagan Brown, Cody Lynch and Ted Kuhrua (who is constantly batting down passes or changing passing lanes with his 6’5 frame and long arms) set to share time on the edges.
