It's day two of playoff week. In a lesser story, apparently there is some sort of election going on today? Hmm. Never heard of it. Moving on...
I spoke with Helene Youngblood today - mother of Dylan Youngblood, Lake's standout DT/FB. Helene reported that Dylan has received significant recruiting interest of late, and she even said that several recruiters had mentioned that they had first heard or seen of Dylan through this blog! That's great news!!!
She continued to list a few of the schools that are showing interest: Oregon, Montana State and Utah are big time suitors, while BCS giants USC and Texas have also sent letters of interest or made calls! Way to go Dylan!
I stopped by practice and the JV game last night...I was just in time to see sophomore QB Bryson Daggett connect with WR Brandon Preslar on a 35 or so yard TD strike. Good stuff guys. I believe the JV team went on to defeat Snohomish. I'm glad somebody did...
The varsity was practicing in the basketball gym, wearing shells and shorts. Coach Tom Tri was working on installing a few new offensive plays to counter some weaknesses he'd seen on Rogers' game tapes. Defensive Coordinator Joe Cronin is using the extra day to install a very aggressive and detailed defensive game plan.
A few notes from practice:
- Senior linebackers Sean Stickney and Jake Huddle (the Vikes two leading tacklers) are back in action after issing last week's game.
- Sophomore FB Duke Dolphin was in street clothes, but he participated in conditioning drills.
- Looking at the Rogers depth chart, they have some beef on their roster, but most of their starters are little guys. For instance: they start a 5'11", 170 pound nosetackle! No joke!
- Rogers primarily uses a 3-5-3 zone defensive alignment, and four out of the five linebackers are 5'9" or shorter.
I'm not sure if I'll make it to practice today with the election and all, but if I do, I'll post some more info.
