Above, RB/S Chameron Lackey scores on a long run, and below, QB Nick Baker leads the scout team (replicating Oak Harbor formations) against the first team defense today at Lake Stevens Stadium.
We headed out to practice today to see how preparations for Senior Week were coming. A couple interesting things to note. First, Junior S/QB Chameron Lackey was getting a lot of reps at fullback today (the Vikes refer to their sole back as the "fullback"). With Bo Dickinson out and Duke Dolphin still suffering the after effect of the concussion he received two weeks ago, the Vikes were looking for depth at the position.
Lackey - who also sees the field as a wideout, kick returner and starting free safety - came in to replace QB Nick Baker in the second half last Friday and opened some eyes with a 69-yard scamper. For those of you who are wondering about the future, I've been told by several coaches and players that Lackey is not interested in playing quarterback next season.
In injury news, Dickinson was in partial pads and participating in some drills, but he told me that he has not been cleared to play as of yet. Dickinson's replacement Dolphin is expected to play Friday. Personally - I would be shocked if Dickinson doesn't at least suit up and get the start on Senior Night before yielding to Dolphin and/or Lackey.
The Viking defense got some looks at the Wildcat offense today, as Baker led the second team through some Wildcat plays against the first team defense. Defensive Coordinator Joe Cronin has the Vikes on the look out for certain "tells" prevalent in the Oak Harbor formations that can tip the 'Cats hand and give the D a head start.
We're working in Week 8 power rankings, which will be up tomorrow, and a first look at oak Harbor, which should be up tonight.
All for now.
