A quick look around the prep football landscape on a beautiful summer morning...
Mike Cane is all over it at the Herald:
- Jackson's Andy Gay led the T-Wolves through an afternoon workout as Jackson players bragged on Travis Snider and Brent Lillibridge. Oh yeah, well we've got Ryan Verdugo and Chris Pratt! Cane also calls Jackson and Stanwood early favorites in their respective divisions.
- Mariner Coach John Ondriezek says new starting QB Josh Thompson has paid his dues.
- I could be wrong, but it sure looks like Marysville-Pilchuck is already practicing in at least half-pads. I can see leg padding on one kid. Is this allowed?
- More from Mariner, the Vikings' first opponent: all Mariner receivers must run the 400m in 65 seconds or less.
Taking a wider look at the area, Evergreen State Preps has released its 2009 preseason All State teams. On defense, half of the players are from Lakes High School in Lakewood, but there was room for three area players: Bothell DE Michael Hartvigson (a UW recruit), Archbishop Murphy DT Tanieli Tupou (cousin of the departed Richardson brothers), and Woodinville DL Maxx Forde. And yes, the second x is silent.
On offense, Bothell's OL Colin Porter was the only area player named to the squad, although one would think that M-P back Austin Denton and Jackson LB Riley Carr garnered some consideration.
For those of you who've asked for the schedule, here it is.
All for now. We'll have more from practice, and as always, follow us on Twitter.
