Protecting Kids from Sex Abuse with LSPD's Det. Kristin Parnell: A Sno-Isle Series
The Lake Stevens detective known for her courageous confrontation of sex predators is teaming with Sno-Isle to educate kids and parents on avoiding sexual abuse
LAKE STEVENS — She’s faced down convicted sex predator Julian Willis, arrested in Lake Stevens after chasing a local teen around Haggen.
She remained calm as former Vikings basketball coach Mark Hein rubbed her leg under the table, during a criminal interview into his alleged predatory actions.
Later, she’d slap the cuffs on Hein en route to parking the former LSHS teacher in county jail.
Recently, Parnell tracked down Strange Wahl, after convincing the Country Dawn Daycare employee — accused of sexually abusing four toddlers — to submit to a voluntary interview and a polygraph test.
Wahl allegedly failed the polygraph, Parnell identified contradictions in Wahl’s story, and the former daycare worker was later arrested on felony child sex abuse charges.
Now, Detective Corporal Kristin Parnell of the Lake Stevens Police Department is sharing her knowledge and experience with the parents and kids of Lake Stevens, in an upcoming series hosted by Sno-Isle Libraries.
Parnell was recently awarded the Investigator Extraordinaire honor by the Washington Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
The commendation reflected “(Parnell’s) unwavering commitment, sharp investigative skills, and relentless determination to seek justice for the most vulnerable victims in our community.”
“Protecting Kids from Sexual Abuse: A Series with Kristin Parnell” begins April 2 at 5:00 pm at the Lake Stevens Library.
From the official release:
“Join Kristen Parnell from the Lake Stevens Police Department to continue the discussion on how to keep children safe from child molesters. In this session, participants will learn how some individuals who abuse children are able to gain trust, manipulate families, and avoid detection. The goal of this seminar is to increase awareness so adults can more effectively recognize concerning behaviors and protect children.
Through training materials originally developed for law‑enforcement education, attendees will watch pre-recorded interviews with convicted offenders describing the tactics they used to approach and select victims, as well as how they influenced the adults in their victims’ lives.”
