Polling the Polls: Lake Stevens Sits Atop Initial Power Ranking (4A Football)
J425 compiles all the relevant polls in one spot and debuts our Power Rankings -- a poll of the compiled polls compressed into a Top Ten. We also provide the other six polls.
LAKE STEVENS — Heading into Week 6 of the 4A football season, the Lake Stevens Vikings — winners of 2 of the last 3 4A titles — sit atop the inaugural J425 4A Power Rankings — our proprietary aggregate ranking of six current weekly polls — after nabbing the best total score (and three first place selections) among the six polls compiled and reviewed by J425.
The undefeated Viks of the 425 are basically tied with the undefeated Vikings of the 253 in Puyallup, with the two teams separated by just one first place selection. Puyallup vaulted onto the scene with a 59-22 mauling of 2024 state champion Sumner last Friday.
In third place, nabbing one first place selection, are the 5-0 Graham-Kapowsin Eagles. The undefeated Gonzaga Prep Bullpups are in at number four, followed by undefeated Chiawana (Pasco) in fifth.
Reigning champs Sumner (3-2) arrive in sixth, Camas (3-2) and Bothell (3-2) are deadlocked for seventh.
Curtis (4-1) and Moses Lake (5-0) round out the Power Rankings. Other teams receiving consideration include Skyline, Richland and Kennedy Catholic. The only undefeated team outside of Power Ranking consideration is Lake Washington (5-0).
See below for a scorecard showing each team’s place on all of the six included polls.
The compiled polls include the Washington State Coaches Association weekly poll, (viewed by J425 as the most legitimate given that the poll is a reflection of the votes of active football coaches); the Associated Press poll; The Tacoma News Tribune Poll; the MaxPreps 4A rankings, WIAA RPI and the Evans Computer Rankings.
