DC Eric Dinwiddie and LB/LT Mason Turner let out a mighty roar postgame.
THX TO THE 1300+ WHO JOINED THIS LIVE THREAD FRIDAY NIGHT….This post is just a quick rundown to get a recap in the books. We filmed interviews with Kolton Matson and Jayden Limar tonight and those aren’t going to waste: we’ll have a full highlight package and interview piece out in video format later this weekend. Mike Anderton’s game stats should be posted tomorrow and his Week Six Game Story will follow on Sunday. - Kev
Recap: Vikings Thrash Eastlake Behind Jayden Limar’s 5 TD performance
A two week lull following a wipe out loss in Oregon. Air quality concerns. Smoke, haze and a top ten opponent.
None of it phased the Lake Stevens Vikings tonight. After spotting last year’s State Quarterfinal opponent a touchdown lead, Tom Tri’s Vikings ripped off 28 unanswered points, convincingly stomping the 10th ranked Eastlake Wolves behind a a cohesive team-wide performance and a well crafted strategy on both sides of the ball.
After a tough opening drive, the Lake defense dominated a very accomplished Eastlake team fresh off a combined 85-13 slaughter of KingCo league opponents.
Mason Turner (FF) and Joey McGinnis battered the hell out of the slight Eastlake ball carriers, demonstrating the advantage provided by TWO 6’2+ 220 lb linebackers patrolling the box. Junior safety Gabe Kylany had 11 tackles and the well-loved DB Quentin Berry added an interception.
On offense, perhaps the best news of the season tonight as it appears Tom Tri has forged an identity for his young offense. From where i stand, Tri appeared set on establishing the passing game and getting players involved early: Jayden Limar didn’t touch the ball until the sixth play (TD, of course).
Sophomore QB Kolton Matson slipped into a confident rhythm that yielded a breakout performance.
Matson threw from the pocket and on the run. He probed the perimeter with screens and targeted the seams with velocity.
He established himself as a feared weapon on the ground, piling up nearly 40 yards rushing and generating oooohs and ahhhhs from the crowd with stop and start agility. He didn’t turn the ball over.
And after Tri’s young QB established himself, Tri began to pepper in a dose of the lethal 17.
Tonight’s 41-14 win only required 13 carries from Jayden Limar, probably because he scored every third time he got the ball. Actually even more often than that!
The Notre Dame commit and All-Everything senior captain reeled off FIVE rushing touchdowns including a Viking career long 82-yard sprint, a 29 yard jet around the perimeter to pay dirt and a diabolical 18 yard death blow, weaving in and out of Eastlake defenders. See below.
Overall, Limar piled up 197 total yards in 14 touches while again and again serving as a motion or play fake decoy, opening up lanes for Matson to leverage perimeter weapons like David Brown, whose 77 yard catch and run down to the one early in the 1Q set the tone for the night. Brown finished with over a hundred yards and a TD.
Limar’s fakes and misdirection often sprung the ever-dangerous Cassidy Bolong Banks, who added 60+ yards rushing and three catches.
Geoff Dishion’s line adapted very well to the absence of a stalwart starter Aaron Parker. The indispensable Bryce Slezak (are we sure he’s just a junior?) slid inside to guard and the middle linebacker tacking-machine Mason Turner took over at left tackle (no biggie).
The line allowed Matson to work at a 13/15 clip for 185 and a TD while opening opportunities for Limar’s 5 tds and 10+ yards per carry average. Limar finished with 13 carries, 185 yards and 5 TDs.

TOUCHDOWN VIKINGS Wasting no time, JAYDEN LIMAR bursts through the line and hits the sideline.. He’s gone. It’s an 82-yard touchdown, the longest I’ve ever seen from him. Amazing.
Just a general note, but one thing that’s different tonight is Tri is calling designed QB runs. Kolton Matson is FAST and he’s been a shoestring away from breaking a long one. in between he’s gone for double digits at least once
