Lake's McKenna Richer Commits to WWU Softball
Viking outfielder joins 2024 grad Haylee Kim at strong DII fastpitch program
BELLINGHAM — Lake Stevens Viking outfielder McKenna Richer (2025) announced her commitment to Western Washington University softball Tuesday evening.
Richer is a four year varsity letter winner for Lake Stevens High School fastpitch and a career .344 hitter.
The right-handed slugger broke out last year, earning All Wesco recognition while batting .403 and finishing second on the team in hits, doubles and home runs while playing an outstanding right field.
Richer joins 2024 Viking grad Haylee Kim in choosing Western’s program.
Academically, Richer is in the Running Start program at Everett Community College and she’s posted that she plans to obtain an AA alongside her high school diploma. Richer plans to major in Dental Hygiene or Business/Marketing.
Richer has played softball since she was six and credit several strong women with guiding her to her current status as a soon-to-be collegiate athlete.
“I was mentored and coached by some amazing women and realized then that I wanted to play at the collegiate level. I began seeking out-fielding lessons and help from players I looked up to, like Sami Reynolds. I embraced my position and absolutely love it,” Richer said.
Richer has featured for the club teams Bandits Breer 1 and Bandits Fastpitch.
