Lake Stevens Vikings Football Reloads as New Era Begins + Schedule Release
Full 2025 schedule + notes from Spring camp. Lake welcomes Eastlake & Snohomish today 6pm for Spring Scrimmage
LAKE STEVENS - If last year’s season opener was hot — it was 96 degrees at kickoff in Sumner when the then-defending 4A champion Lake Stevens Vikings took on Sumner Spartans — the team that would eventually de-throne the Vikings in claiming its first 4A football championship — then this year’s opener is set to be even hotter.
Last year, Week 1, the SPSL power program bested Lake Stevens 31-28 in overtime — in a game that saw the Viks double up on Sumner in time of possession and yardage.
This year the reigning 4A state champions make the journey to Lake Stevens for the return engagement — in a game that will feature two of the best teams in the state and in which Viking fans will see a starting quarterback other than Kolton Matson for the first time in four years.
The Viks’ two-time state champion QB will be playing in Ellensburg (at Central Washington University) but coaches, players and fans are talking about Blake Moser — the rising junior phenom set to take the helm of a Viking offense stacked with big, fast skill players and a battle-tested offensive line led by rising junior guard Will Lynch — returning as an 11th grader for his third year as a starter.
Moser, one of the nation’s best baseball players in the class of 2027, opened eyes with fastballs clocked at near 95 mph this Spring — quite a number for a sophomore.
Football fans took notice when the two year backup QB put down the clip board and saw his first non-QB action — STARTING at WR in the playoffs as the Viks roster was decimated by injury.
Moser quickly posted a jaw dropping 29-yard TD run on a fly sweep before turning in the catch of the year in Lake’s comeback playoff win over Mead.
So the arm is big (95 mph?!), the playmaking is evident, but what about the speed?
Last week Moser set an all time program record for 40 time, during Lake’s internal Spring combine.
The Viks use electronic timing and are notoriously strict with their posted times, lift maxes and player height-weight listings.
Prior to 2025, just one player — the great Jayden Limar — had ever posted a sub-4.5 40. Limar ran a 4.48.
But this year THREE Viks bested the 4.5 barrier, with Moser setting a new program record at a blistering 4.47 pace.
Right behind Moser was Greyson Eggers, a 2024 First team All-Kingco selection at Tight End and Kick Returner who transferred from Newport to Lake Stevens this winter.
The 6’1, 200 pound linebacker ran a jaw-dropping 4.49 — as did rising junior RB Jayvian Ferrell, who improved on his 2024 team best time of 4.60.
And despite all of that, the guy who may be the fastest player on the team is still dealing with a track injury and didn’t break the 4.5 barrier. But rising sophomore WR Max Cook

is the fastest freshman in school history and the state, posting a 11.16 100 meter time during the track season.
So suffice it to say, the talent is there and Cook — who averaged over 100 yards receiving a game as a starter at WR — joins the aforementioned Eggers and returning starters Kekoa Okiyama (second in receiving yards among Vikings returners) and rising junior Seth Price, who torched Sumner for 11 catches in the opener last year. Okiyama ran a 4.55 40 at a camp this spring and Price picked up a scholarship offer from FCS National Champion Montana State.
Speaking of offers, this man has at least ten! Ty Tautolo, a 6-4 240 lb rising junior rush end comes over to Lake Stevens from the other side of Machias after two All Conference seasons with the Panthers.
The imposing edge rusher counts Oregon, Texas A+M, Notre Dame and Washington among his offers.
With the acclaimed Eggers and Tautolo competing for starter roles on defense, they also represent the only newcomers on Eric Dinwiddie’s battle tested D. Reaping the rewards of playing a very young D last year, Dinwiddie now has a wealth of experienced young players ready to deploy the system that’s made Dinwiddie perhaps the most respected D-coordinator in the state.
There’ll be so much more to talk about in what promises to be a a banner year for Tom Tri’s championship program. Spring Football wraps tonight with a scrimmage vs Eastlake and Snohomish at 6:00 pm in Lake Stevens.
Viking Football Schedule Analysis - 2025
For the first time in over a dozen years, the 2024 Lake Stevens Vikings lost a league game, as Arlington snapped Lake’s 63-game win streak with a 28-14 win.
The Viks’ streak of consecutive Wesco titles, however, was extended to 13 thanks to a three-way tie between Lake, Glacier Peak and the Eagles.
The 2025 season kicks off at home on Friday, September 5, against the 2024 WIAA State Champion Sumner Spartans. Kickoff for all home games is 7:00 pm.
In their 2024 season opener, the Vikings fell to eventual champion Sumner on the road in a close 31-28 contest decided in overtime, making this Week 1 matchup a prime opportunity for Lake Stevens to secure an early victory and avenge last year's defeat.
Week 2 brings another challenging non-league game as the Vikings travel to face perennial power Bellevue on September 12.
This is the fourth straight annual installment of what has become perhaps the most compelling non-league home and home series in the state. The Viks lead the current series 2-1.
The 2024 matchup saw Bellevue emerge victorious at Lake Stevens with a 31-21 score, avenging the Wolverines’ previous two losses to the Viks — including a bell-ringer in Bellevue in 2023, and a Jayden Limar-dominated affair in hot, hazy Lake Stevens in 2022.
Bellevue went on to claim the state 3A title last year, adding extra anticipation to this year's away game.
League play commences on September 19, with an away game against Cascade. The Vikings dominated Cascade in their 2024 meeting, securing a decisive 57-0 win at home, and will be looking to replicate that success on the road.
League action continues with a home game against Mariner on September 26. The Viks have battered Mariner by 40 or more three straight years.
Following this, on October 3rd, the Vikings will travel to face Glacier Peak. Lake Stevens secured a 31-10 home victory against Glacier Peak in 2024.
The schedule continues with a road game against Jackson on October 10th, followed by a home non-league game against Ferndale on October 17th.
League play resumes with a home game against Kamiak on October 24th, and the regular season culminates with an away game against Arlington on October 31st.
In 2024, Lake Stevens suffered a 28-14 loss — ending their 63-game league win streak — on the road against Arlington in the final league game.
