Lake Stevens Vikings Football Reloads as New Era Begins + Schedule Release
Full 2025 schedule + notes from Spring camp. Lake welcomes Eastlake & Snohomish today 6pm for Spring Scrimmage
LAKE STEVENS - If last year’s season opener was hot — it was 96 degrees at kickoff in Sumner when the then-defending 4A champion Lake Stevens Vikings took on Sumner Spartans — the team that would eventually de-throne the Vikings in claiming its first 4A football championship — then this year’s opener is set to be even hotter.
Last year, Week 1, the SPSL power program bested Lake Stevens 31-28 in overtime — in a game that saw the Viks double up on Sumner in time of possession and yardage.
This year the reigning 4A state champions make the journey to Lake Stevens for the return engagement — in a game that will feature two of the best teams in the state and in which Viking fans will see a starting quarterback other than Kolton Matson for the first time in four years.
The Viks’ two-time state champion QB will be playing in Ellensburg (at Central Washington University) but coaches, players and fans are talking about Blake Moser — the rising junior phenom set to take the helm of a Viking offense stacked with big, fast skill players and a battle-tested offensive line led by rising junior guard Will Lynch — returning as an 11th grader for his third year as a starter.
Moser, one of the nation’s best baseball players in the class of 2027, opened eyes with fastballs clocked at near 95 mph this Spring — quite a number for a sophomore.
Football fans took notice when the two year backup QB put down the clip board and saw his first non-QB action — STARTING at WR in the playoffs as the Viks roster was decimated by injury.
Moser quickly posted a jaw dropping 29-yard TD run on a fly sweep before turning in the catch of the year in Lake’s comeback playoff win over Mead.
So the arm is big (95 mph?!), the playmaking is evident, but what about the speed?
Last week Moser set an all time program record for 40 time, during Lake’s internal Spring combine.
The Viks use electronic timing and are notoriously strict with their posted times, lift maxes and player height-weight listings.
Prior to 2025, just one player — the great Jayden Limar — had ever posted a sub-4.5 40. Limar ran a 4.48.
But this year THREE Viks bested the 4.5 barrier, with Moser setting a new program record at a blistering 4.47 pace.
Right behind Moser was Greyson Eggers, a 2024 First team All-Kingco selection at Tight End and Kick Returner who transferred from Newport to Lake Stevens this winter.
The 6’1, 200 pound linebacker ran a jaw-dropping 4.49 — as did rising junior RB Jayvian Ferrell, who improved on his 2024 team best time of 4.60.
And despite all of that, the guy who may be the fastest player on the team is still dealing with a track injury and didn’t break the 4.5 barrier. But rising sophomore WR Max Cook
