SHORELINE - A title contender is emerging in Lake Stevens as the Vikings continue to put football scores up on dazed opponents. And with three of the state’s top ten teams in their Wesco division — including 2023 state title holders Jackson, there’s no debating the fact that the challenge lies directly in front of the talented squad, with league play picking up after Spring Break.
The Viks got off the mark early on Monday, and by the end of the first half inning, the matter was decided after Lake added together a couple homers and a fusillade of extra base hits en route to an eight run inning.
Senior shortstop Haylee Kim collected four hits in five at bats — including a three run first inning home run Monday as the eighth-ranked Lake Stevens Vikings (9-1) beat Shorewood like a pack of rented mules Monday, wrapping things uo by a score of 17-4 on Monday at Meridian Park in Shoreline.
Kim’s homer was actually her second hit of the inning — she led off the game with a double before smacking a homer to left center as Lake batted around in the opening frame.
Kim’s four-bagger soared high above the left center wall with the centerfielder giving up chase after a few step.
The ball disappeared into the treeline as part of an eight run first inning. Kim, a Western Washington University commit, also singled in the third and doubled in the fifth inning.
Kim has been on a tear for the Viks and holds places on the state leaderboards for home runs (with four, shes two off the state lead held by a Jackson UNLV commit) RBI and Runs, but inthe Lake lineup she’s one of a handful of Viks with light tower power, and the team lead in offensive categories is spread around several key leaders. Zoe Hopkins leads the team (and is in the top five in 4A) for Slugging Percentage (1.192). Alexa Bradley leads the team in (and is fifth in state) in RBI with 22. The senior centerfielder also leads the squad in batting average.
