Garfield Bulldogs at Lake Stevens Vikings: Pick and Preview
The 3A Garfield Bulldogs will arrive in Lake Stevens today a confident bunch. They dispatched the Vikings 26-16 a year ago this week, handing the 4A champs their only in-state loss. Garfield is led by a pair of Cal-commits in QB EJ Caminong (2024) and WR Rahshawn Clark (2024). Lake is familiar with Clark from the Federal Way win last year (his previous team) and both of the Berkeley-bound talents are FSP performers, so Vikings who also train with Tracy Ford like Kolton Matson, Jayshon Limar and Keegan Howard will be well acquainted with Garfield’s stars.
That said, playing in Lake Stevens is a different beast than playing at home. And while home games that occur before school begins are typically a little less roudy, the atmosphere should be electric as the defending champs open their season. Last year at this time, J425 predicted the loss to Garfield - the vibe wasn’t right.
We don’t feel the same this year. The Vikings are coming off rigorous spring and fall camps — and they’ve emerged injury free. Look for a coming out party for Lake’s emerging new leadership committee. Captains today are QB Kolton Matson, the rising junior entering his third year at the helm of Tom Tri’s offense and MLB/RT Mason Turner. Matson is the best QB in his class (2025) and Turner, a senior, is an All State candidate at LB, matching 6’3 245 size with amazing burst and suddenness. LT/DL Bryce Slezak and SS/WR Gabe Kylany are the permanent captains and both provide steady, rock-solid experienced leadership. Lake’s X-factor is rising junior Jayshon Limar, the 6’1 210-pound RB/DB who will wear the #17 and start in place of his all-world brother Jayden, who is expected to get carries for the Oregon Ducks tomorrow. Jayshon was injured last year but has had an excellent summer. The multi-talented 2025 performer holds at least eight major college scholarship offers. He’s a star in the making.
The Pick: We like Lake Stevens to notch the victory 42-21 tonight as Eric Dinwiddie’s defense gets after the Metro guests, causing a few turnovers and turning those into points. Look for Kolton Matson to open his junior campaign with 3 TDs, at least one on the ground. Keep an eye on Lake’s new placekicker - he’s got leg enough to send the pigskin through from 50, but it probably won’t come to that.

Freshman QB Blake Moser will see his first action for Lake. He’s highly thought-of within the program.
Garfield is really racking up the personal fouls now you could tell it was going to go this way before the game. I’ll show you the video later but they were crazy confident talking tons of shit.
