LAKE STEVENS — Jayshon Limar and David Brown were the headliner stars of Lake Stevens' 41-0 State Playoffs packed-house home-field win over Woodinville last Saturday night.
But the under-heralded Viking offensive and defensive lines were no less instrumental in keeping Lake's championship aspirations alive, in a game which was scoreless until 6:42 of the second quarter.
Falcon quarterback Levi Grothen tried to compensate for his team's failed ground attack by launching 15 throws in the first half but Viking pressure combined with the treacherous weather conditions rendered that effort fruitless -- Grothen completed just three passes in the first half for 26 yards
Cold, saturating rain and swirling winds greeted the teams almost as soon as the game began, and they proved to be a factor at the outset.
In the meantime the Viking defensive line thwarted the Falcons' previously potent rushing attack, holding it to a mere 24 net yards in the first half and 31 yards for the entire game.
