J425 Appointed to Panel Judging Best Reporting of 2023
Your very own J425 joined judges from WaPo, a major university and a British Columbia-based publisher in reviewing the best works of 2023
The Journal 425 recently served as one of four judges empaneled by the Local Online Independent News association (LION) reviewing the best works of journalism published by North American digital media in 2023.
J425’s Kevin Thomas Hulten joined a group of judges that included a Washington Post editor, a professor at a major journalism school and a Vancouver, British Columbia-based publisher. On behalf of LION — the leading professional organization of online journalists — the judges reviewed hundreds of submittals demonstrating excellence in journalism. This was thinned out to 23 semi finalists. A winner and two finalists will be announced at the LION annual conference in Charlotte, NC in October.
LION has emerged as the next wave AP or SPJ, with the most impactful publishers and journalists organizing under this non-profit heading.
J425 joined LION in late 2021. J425 is also a member of the Investigative Reporters and Editors.
Publisher Kevin Thomas Hulten is additionally individually accredited through the WIAA (sports reporting), FEMA (PIO 15 certified for disaster & emergency response reporting - meaning we’re pre certified for onsite briefings and reporting at any Federal emergency) and the American Association for Public Opinion Research (polling professionals).
Although J425 didn’t submit any works for review this year, look for investigative coverage of area predators to be entered for consideration next year.
