ARLINGTON - The Lake Stevens girls basketball team is headed to the 4A state tournament after a 45-37 victory over Skyview in Arlington Friday.
“This was our goal at the beginning of the year,” said a grinning Keira Tupua in post game comments, accepting a medal for sportsmanship at center court.
The goal hasn’t seemed super attainable by the end of last week, however. Lake’s make up was tested en route.

The Wesco-champion Vikings pushed their luck to the edge, watching a fifteen-game win streak dissolve into back-to-back losses at the most crucial time.
Needing to win twice consecutively to keep the season alive, the Viks battered Newport by nearly 40 points before Friday’s loser out game in Arlington.
On Friday, the nine-seed Viks built an early lead, weathered some foul trouble and cut off avenues of opponent opportunity in the second half with stifling perimeter defense and ball pressure.
