Former Lake Superintendent Appointed to Lead Marysville
If Dave Burgess -- the highly-respected former Lake Stevens superintendent, administrator and principal was looking for a challenge -- he found one.
MARYSVILLE — It’s been a tumultous week in Marysville, but what else is new.
This week alone, the embattled school district received a new state overseer, discharged its current superintendent and tasked a well-respected former Lake Stevens leader to helm the district for the rest of the year.
As of Thursday night, the new boss in Marysville is Dr. David Burgess, who accepted the superintendent role on an interim basis. Burgess is reportedly inked through the rest of the year, with anything further requiring further hashing out.
This follows Monday’s action, when the board accepted the Office of Superintendent’s of Public Instruction’s (OSPI) decision to appoint an interim administrator to oversee district finances and management.
This drastic state action came after a nearly-unparalleled crisis of confidence and finance brought the district to the edge of dissolution.
