BREAKING: Seniors Emery Fletcher and Haylee Kim both doubled and homered — and Charli Pugmire got the complete game win plus her 100th strikeout on the season… as third-ranked Lake Stevens (16-3) beat Eastlake (14-9) by a 7-5 score tonight at a crisp Phil Johnson Field.
But that makes it sound much much easier than it was.
In actuality, it looked like Lake was in serious danger of facing an elimination game Wednesday as the Viks trailed 5-1 headed to the fifth. Instead, Lake will play Kamiak in two nights for a trip to state.
That’s because senior Emery Fletcher got things cracking in the late innings.
Watch: Haylee Kim and Emery Fletcher home runs.
Fletcher started a run scoring rally in the fifth with a double… before smashing a three-run homer in the sixth — her first high school roundtripper — giving Lake a lead they wouldn’t surrender.
The Vikings’ star shortstop Haylee Kim did what senior leaders are supposed to do in the playoffs: homering, doubling and making highlight plays in the field.
Kim had three hits including a solo home run to center field in the top of the fourth for Lake Stevens, who played without senior star Zoe Hopkins.
Hopkins played center and batted third last week.
