Emerson Cummins Goes Deep Twice to Power Viking Comeback

LAKE STEVENS — Junior slugger Emerson Cummins hit two more home runs and drove in five — freshman shortstop Reese Breckenridge went 4 for 4 out of the leadoff spot — and senior starter Mara Sivley earned her second straight complete game victory — as the Lake Stevens Vikings (3-2) defeated the Monroe Bearcats 8-6 on Monday.
Cummins homered in the fourth and fifth innings. She has four homers in her last three home games.
The Viks built a five run lead in the sixth inning and then held off the Bearcats's charge.
Monroe closed the gap by scoring on a ground out and a home run.
Monroe opened the scoring in the first after Vivian Knuckey singled, scoring one run.
The Bearcats extended their early lead with two runs in the top of the third thanks to RBI doubles by Sophia Jeske and Scarlett Nagy.
Heading to the home half of the fourth, Monroe led 3-0.
That’s when Cummins powered a Viking rally.
Lake tied the game thanks to a two run homer from Cummins and a single by Alyssa Anderson.

In the bottom of the fifth, Lake Stevens broke the tie with a McKenna Richer RBI double.
Cummins followed with a three run shot to left, extending Lake’s lead to 7-3. The Viking infielder is batting .437 on the year with ten runs batted in.
Mara Sivley earned the complete game win for Lake Stevens, moving to 2-1 on the year. The senior has 33 strikeouts in 19 innings pitched.
With Charli Pugmire under the weather, Sivley has shouldered the full load, covering the last 14 innings for Lake — earning two wins and striking out 22 over the two game stretch.
The righty struck out ten in her second consecutive complete game victory, scattering nine hits and six runs (five earned) over seven innings, striking out 10 am.
Addy Bryant took the loss for Monroe. Bryant went the distance, allowing eight runs on 14 hits, striking out four and walking two.
Lake Stevens, winners of three straight, totaled 14 hits on the day.

Freshman Reese Breckenridge doubled and scored twice during a four hit day from the lead off spot. Breckenridge leads the team in hits (8) and batting average (.444).
Addi Fletcher collected two hits in three at bats.
