All Wesco Football: Vikings Dominate 2023 League Honors
Lake Stevens earns 21 honors and 19 team slots; David Brown, Mason Turner, Bryce Slezak nab double first team recognition; Kolton Matson, Steven Lee, Turner and Jayshon Limar now 2X All Wesco honorees
LAKE STEVENS It was another banner year for Lake Stevens Vikings athletes with regard to the annual All Wesco teams and recognition. Lake earned 19 all league slots and two coaching honors, in a vote of opposing Wesco coaches and assistants.
For the second straight year, Vikings Head Coach Tom Tri and Defensive Coordinator Eric Dinwiddie were honored as the best at their respective positions. Tri’s offense is averaging 47 points per game this year; and Dinwiddie’s defense is pushing an 11 quarter shutout streak, outscoring opponents 12-0 singlehandedly in the first two rounds of loser-out games.
Together, the coaches led Lake to its 13th-straight Wesco Championship (counting co-championships, as one should) and extending the Vikings’ league win streak to 57 games. The Viks have won their last 22 games against in-state opponents.
Thirteen Vikings earned first team honors, including Vikings captain Bryce Slezak, a three year starter at left tackle who was overlooked in previous votes due to opposing coaches’ tendency to select seniors.
Watch (above): Jayshon Limar’s 245-yard outburst last weekend.
Four Vikings are repeat honorees, including DB Steven Lee and LB Mason Turner, who both return as First Team All Wesco selections on defense.
QB Kolton Matson returns as the first team quarterback after a second team showing last season. Kolton’s 37 touchdown passes are six short of Jacob Eason’s single season program record.
And 2023 First Team All Wesco running back Jayshon Limar previously earned Honorable Mention in 2021 as a freshman.
Several Vikings are dual honorees, including the aforementioned Slezak and Turner. The Vikings bookend tackles each earned first team recognition on both sides of the ball.
Senior standout David Brown, who must be in All State contention in all of his roles, was named First Team All Wesco at wide receiver and cornerback. Boogy has 19 total touchdowns and he’s outscored the Vikings playoff opponents through his role on defense alone, via pick-six interceptions in each of the first two playoff games. Boogy announced his fifth scholarship offer this week, from Montana State.
Senior Jesse Lewis made All Wesco Honorable Mention at WR and CB.
J425 has a tradition of making individual All Wesco player cards for each of the honorees. Senior captain Gabe Kylany (WR/S) was up first. See above for his card.
