SNOHOMISH COUNTY – The sixteen year old charged with the murder of Jayda Woods Johnson, 13, at an Alderwood Mall shooting Wednesday made bail Friday, sources tell J425. He is charged as a juvenile. Developing….
PREVIOUSLY - A thirteen year old girl is the latest victim in a simmering feud between rival groups of Snohomish County teenagers that boiled over around 6:00 pm Wednesday near a packed Alderwood Mall food court on the eve of a summer holiday.
That’s when a fight broke out between a group of teenage boys. Punches were thrown. A gun was drawn. A shot was fired. An innocent bystander was hit.
Thirteen-year-old Jayda Woods-Johnson was struck by a single bullet and died as EMTs rushed her to the hospital.
The shooter escaped the initial scene, but police posted an image of the suspect within minutes.
A short time later, a 16-year-old Edmonds boy surrendered to Lynnwood Police. Police referred to the boy as the “suspected shooter” in a release and stated that he will be charged with murder.
“The Lynnwood Police Department expresses our deepest sympathy to Jayda's family and friends for their unimaginable loss due to this senseless act of violence,” a department spokesperson said.
J425 can exclusively report that the suspected shooter is a former Kamiak High School student.
Police said late Wednesday that “a gun has not yet been recovered and detectives continue to follow leads and collect all available evidence”.
These are the facts of the matter. And like so many instances involving the incomprehensible loss of innocent youth, the tragedy can be experienced like a bolt of lightning from beyond. Devastating, shocking, unpredictable.
However, J425 can exclusively report that for this generation of 425-area teens, Wednesday’s fatal shooting isn’t a one-off.
